Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® The Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® was designed to be light-weight, portable and easier to use than syringe-type extruders. The Ultimate Clay Extruder® can be used with all types of clay. Step 1 Select a portion of clay and roll it between the palms of the hand to make a round log equivalent to approximately 15mm (.60 inch) wide and no longer than 115mm (4.50 inches). Note: if you don't have a ruler handy just lay clay along the side of the extruder barrel to ensure the clay is not wider or longer than the inner-dimensions of the extruder. Step 2 While holding the extruder barrel in one hand use the other hand to remove the bottom end cap from by turning counter clockwise. Step 3 Place the selected disc into the bottom end cap and set aside. Step 4 While holding the extruder barrel in one hand with the end of the barrel facing downward use your other hand to unscrew the extruder plunger from the barrel by turning the handle counter-clockwise. Continue turning the extruder handle until the portion of clay appears to fit easily into the barrel. Step 5 Insert the portion of clay into the extruder. If any clay is extending outside the barrel, just pinch the extra clay off and return it to the package of clay for use at a later time. Step 6 While holding the extruder barrel in one hand use the other hand to replace the bottom end cap containing the selected disc by turning clockwise. Step 7 While holding the extruder barrel in one hand with the end of the barrel facing downward towards work surface use your other hand to screw the extruder plunger into the barrel by turning the handle clockwise. As clay begins to extrude through the disc allow the clay to rest on work surface to keep the clay from stretching from its weight. Continue turning the extruder handle until your extrusion process is complete. Note: As the extruder plunger comes in contact with the clay inside of the barrel you will feel some resistance and the need for more torque to extruder the clay. Actual torque requirements will vary depending on the density of the clay and the size disc shape used. For example the extruder will require more torque to extrude clay through a disc with a small hole than a disc with a larger hole. Consumer Notice: Firmer-type clays should be thoroughly conditioned to a malleable state before using with the extruder. Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® (sku #35055 & #35180) is manufactured from anodized aluminum, and thou very durable if used as intended can be damaged if excessive force is used to extrude unconditioned or hard clay. Although some consumers successfully use these extruders in conjunction with a lever and/or vice and/or drill as an aid during the extruding process, due to the amount of torque which can be generated from use of these aids, we strongly recommend consumers avoid the use of these aids with the extruders. Any damage resulting from excessive torque related to the use of these types of aids will void the factory warranty.
